Good Stewardship Benefits All
Written by Dan
The word, stewardship, simply means to manage someone else’s property. For Baptist Financial Services (BFS) fosters Christian stewardship through responsible financial management.
Christian stewardship is a way of living in which we recognise that everything belongs to God. All resources must be used for his glory and the common good. Stewardship encourages virtue and bears the fruit of solidarity among peoples.
Through stewardship, BFS provides loans to Churches, schools, aged care and community services to build or purchase properties, repair and upgrade facilities.
We also provide savings and investment accounts to Churches, Church based organisations, all businesses, charities, schools, self managed super funds, trusts and individuals.
Good stewardship respects the purpose for which things are made, and BFS focuses on delivering service and value in order to support and sustain Christian communities.
One of the great stewardship passages in Scripture is found in Matthew’s Gospel. Jesus is speaking:
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.” (Matthew 6:19 - 24 NIV)
Jesus makes it clear that money can easily become a false god, and that a person's heart will always follow the things that are most treasured. A person’s attitude toward money, not money itself, determines it's impact in life. Money can be one of life’s greatest blessings or one of life’s greatest curses.
